The latest version of Makino’s highly successful V33 vertical machining centre sets new standards in surface quality and accuracy. The V33i achieves jig borer accuracy even in environments where temperatures vary. While maintaining the tradition of superior construction and performance that characterised the V33, the V33i features longer XY axis travels and various other improvements that will make this machine the de facto standard machining centre for mould making.
The V33i is equipped with a high-speed Makino spindle of a quality unmatched by any other machine-tool maker. Minimal deflection and vibration ensure precision surface finishes of uniformly high quality. Makino’s unique core cooling system keeps the spindle temperature constant, regardless of operating conditions. This minimises heat-induced spindle expansion and spindle deflection caused by variations in the pre-pressure applied to the bearings. The result is clear to see: polishing-free product surfaces and adjustment-free parting lines. The V33i is available with a 20,000, 30,000 or 40,000 RPM spindle.
Level differences between areas machined with different tools are a big headache in the die and mould polishing process. An optional feature of the V33i, the hybrid automatic tool length measuring device, accurately measures and corrects the tool tip position and that of the rotating spindle nose. This reduces level differences to an absolute minimum so that the machined surfaces are of outstanding quality.
The V33i combines high-speed machining with superb accuracy. A rapid traverse of 20,000 mm/min and equally fast cutting feeds boost productivity by reducing out-of-cut times while increasing metal removal rates. Makino’s patented SGI.4 3-D software virtually eliminates quadrant protrusions and greatly improves circularity, even at high feed rates. The axis layout has been designed with no overhangs to ensure outstanding accuracy over the full range of axis travel and provide excellent rigidity and dampening characteristics. Painstakingly polished to a precision finish, the machine is designed with side guideways to provide superior accuracy and rigidity. Even in environments with a low ceiling, where ambient warmth can impair accuracy, the V33i’s performance is unaffected. Makino’s Thermal Guard covers the entire machine and protects it against ambient temperature changes.
Another key feature of the V33i is its convenience. That starts with the compact footprint (2,300 x 2,400 mm) and continues with the machine’s ease of operation. All set-up work is concentrated along the machine’s front width of 2.3 m. The coolant tank slides out from the front of the machine and the front-loading chip bucket is shaped for easy and efficient chip removal. The V33i also comes with a plug-in solution for automation – a standard robot shutter with an opening size of 530 x 550 mm. The route to unmanned operations could not be more convenient.
